This week at Carroll Manor we are celebrating our 2nd annual Autism Awareness Week! We sent home a packet of resources for parents, please let us know if you have any questions about those resources, and we hope you find them useful! The schedule below explains our weekly activities which started today.
Monday - 3rd-5th grade general ed students attended a presentation by Grant, a man who has Aspergers Syndrome, he was able to tell them what it was like growing up with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and answered questions that they had. We sent home key chains to symbolize Autism Awareness here at Carroll Manor.
Tuesday - DON'T FORGET! We will be celebrating "Light it Up Blue" Night at 8:00 pm. You are welcome to drive by and see the school all lit up. There will be informational posters displayed, as well as our student posters. All children who attend will receive a blue glow necklace :)
Wednesday - A few of our students who have Autism will be celebrated on the Morning Announcements. We will show videos of the students saying the pledge, singing, horseback riding, etc. This will help remind the students that children with Autism can do a lot of neat things!
Thursday - General education students will be viewing a kid-friendly video that helps explain Autism. This will give them the opportunity to ask questions and discuss how they can interact with their peers who have Autism.
Friday - The whole school will be wearing blue :)! Don't forget to dress your child in blue on Friday to help celebrate our special week!
Mrs. Lacey Petersen created beautiful posters of our students that are currently displayed in our hallways! I witnessed students all around the school getting excited about the posters because they recognized their friends :). Check out the amazing posters of our famous friends in our classroom!
Happy Autism Awareness Week!
PS - please refer to the Classroom Wish List and Calendar(on the right hand side) for new info!
